Hector (Spags) John

Candidate for Salisbury Constituency

Hector John

Hector John who is most affectionately known as ‘Spags’ was born on October 22, 1970 in La Savanne, Salisbury to Merle Isidore and Mcfield John.  He is a graduate of the St Joseph Campus of the Dominica Grammar School, now ITSS.  Hector is also a recent graduate of Monroe College in New York where he did a Bachelors of Arts inInformation Technology.

Hector has always seen the need to help community at a very young age he became actively involved in the Salisbury Catholic Youth Movement where he served as the group’s president for several years dealing mainly with Community organizer.  He also served as President of the Salisbury Improvement Committee (SIC) and on the Credit Committee of West Coast Co-operative Credit Union.  Hector was involved in the re-vitalization of the National Youth Council and served as chairman for three years.   Hector worked in the Banana industry for over 16 years where he was a statistics officer/ information technology assistant.

Spags is an avid cricketer and for three years played for the Dominica Under-19 cricket team. He also played cricket for Tropical Star Salisbury United, DCP Mahaut United, Somerset Sports Club, Terrors United, Cavaliers Cricket Club and Rockstone Cricket Club (New York).

While at Monroe, Hector got involved with the Multicultural Association, debate club, and National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) where he was the first president.  Hector became the first student to address the graduation ceremony in its 76th year history of Monroe College.

Hector enjoys blogging and writing poems, articles and creole songs.  Spags believes that if someone truly appreciates their humble beginnings, then helping to empower others becomes easy. Every citizen should have the opportunity to protect, develop and benefit from the resources of the country.
