Hector John is Opposition Leader
The announcement was made on Wednesday, at a press conference called by the leading opposition party in the country, the United Workers Party.
In making the announcement, Political Leader of the United Workers Party, Ron Green noted that Mr John had “recently galvanised a successful campaign on the theme of ‘Strengthening Our Democracy, No One Party State’. He described Mr John as a “young man of great promise very well rooted in his west coast communities.”
John is a graduate in Information Technology. He was first elected to Parliament at the December 18, 2009 general elections on a United Workers Party ticket. However a decision by the United Workers Party to adopt a position of “non-participation” with regards to its role in Parliament, meant that John never took his seat in Parliament.
His seat together with that of UWP President and former Prime Minister Edison James were declared vacant resulting by elections in the constituencies of Marigot and Salisbury held by James and John respectively. Both candidates were re-elected with increased majorities.
Hector John is expected to be sworn in as Leader of the Opposition at a function to be held at the State House on Monday.
